Courtyard and Caryatids
The TKF Foundation is a private grant-making foundation whose purpose is to create "Open Spaces, Sacred Places.” It partners with organizations to create places which increase a sense of community and contribute to a deepening of human connections. These sacred places foster the development of human spirituality and are open and accessible to people of all beliefs, faiths and cultures. Our courtyard is considered one of those open and scared places in Baltimore City.
The courtyard project was also supported through the Marjorie Cook Foundation, the William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund and the Koinoria Foundation.
Sculptor Claire McArdle
was commissioned to create the finishing touches to the sacred space. The
caryatids she created were given the names Trust, Honesty, Patience and
Integrity. These names and their appearance were inspired by the women of
Marian House, with whom the sculptor consulted prior to beginning her work.
The Caryatids were provided through the generous donations of the Linehan
Family Foundation, The Batza Family Foundation, and our sponsoring communities
the School Sisters of Notre Dame and Sisters of Mercy.
Together, the courtyard and caryatids offer the community of Better Waverly a beautiful meeting space. Neighbors are encouraged to visit the space and are often drawn to visit by planned events such as art exhibits and musicals events.
